Bearnstow’s Young Artist Residency Program is designed to give selected young dancers a summer of total contact with good dance and to give Bearnstow a cadre of capable assistants who can “put their hand to anything.” While the basic job is housing maintenance and KP, our young artist residents have designed programs and promotional material, conducted research, composed sound scores, choreographed their own works, created dance videos, and have gone on to perform together in other venues. The artistic calibre of our young artists speaks well not only for the institutions from which they come but also for the Bearnstow image of the renaissance dancer.

 Emmanuel Becerra returns in 2014 for his third summer at Bearnstow. He is a graduate of the University of Colima, Mexico. He studied the tango in Argentina, and has danced with the FoBos dance company in Colima, and with the José Limón Company as a guest dancer, touring in Mexico and the United States.

 Ben Grinberg is a Philadelphia-based physical theatre artist, acrobatic choreographer, actor, director and video editor. He is co-artistic director of the Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, a Fresh Tracks artist at New York Live Arts and a resident artist at the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts.

 Evelyn Langley graduates from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois this year where she has studied religion and dance. She produces formal and informal performances with her college's Terpsichore Dance Collective. Her work in dance responds to both artificial and natural environments.

 Tyler Rai returns to Bearnstow for the second time. She is a graduate of Bennington College and currently resides in Germany where she has earned a certificate in Somatic Education and is just completing a 10-month contemporary dance program at TanzFabrik in Berlin. |
 Anabel Sagrero, from Morelia, Mexico, is a graduate in dance creation of the Bellas Artes, Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts, in Mexico City. She is also a student of janzu, a hydrotherapy relaxation method, as well as therapeutic massage and hatha yoga.

 Bearnstow is pleased to announce that Eri Matsui, a young dancer from Fukuoka, Japan, will be our guest for the summer. She will be participating in the workshops, assisting the Residents, and introducing us to Japanese dance and culture. |

Bearnstow Resident Artists perform with Almanac in Philadelphia
Four Bearnstow Resident Artists performed with the Almanac Dance Circus Theatre in Philadelphia on October 23, 2014, to present Harvest: New Works from Maine, Mexico, and Beyond. Our Resident Artists included Adam Kerbel, Evelyn Langley, Emmanuel Becerra, and Ben Grinberg. Bearnstow’s Day Camp instructor Molly Hess attended the performance and joined the photo.
